Yesterday, passed the oral examination part of my Bi-annual Flight Review (to keep my private pilot's license current.) Next, will be the actual flying exam, departing from the Naples, FL airport (KAPF) and flying up and down coastal SW Florida...

Today, I'm again studyiny Josef Pieper's essay (book) "Leisure: The Basis of Culture," a required reading for Ave Maria University. During new student orientation, we will be having discussions with faculty regarding the philosophical & theological ideas found in this intriguing work. As the essay's description states, "Published in Germany during the post-World War II period, this essay has been acclaimed ever since as a marvelous invititation to the true intellectual life: the contemplation of God through His creation."

The essay shows how modern man has forgotten the original meaning and purpose for leisure as a cornerstone of Western Civilization. Did you know that the "Greek word for leisure is the origin of the Latin scola, German Schule, English school."
