A look back at Greccio, Italy

A few weeks ago, we spent an amazing week on silent retreat up in the mountains surrounding the hamlet of Greccio, Italy.  We stayed at a retreat house which is about a 5 minute hike from the cliff-side monastery which marks the location where St. Francis made the first Nativity Set in the 1200's! There is little chapel with an altar built into the rock where Francis created it.  One can almost see the villagers traveling with lanterns to see this first living nativity scene, complete with animals, displayed in this little hillside cave overlooking the vast valley below!

It is such a beautiful and peaceful place!  One can truly feel the presence of God here!
I have so many neat memories of this place, and prayed for your intentions there.  Below are some of my favorite pictures.  If you ever get the chance to visit here, please do!

Greccio is about a 1.5 hour bus ride out of Rome, and in order to get to the retreat center, we drove through the town, and them up to our accomodations at Oasi Bambino Gesu.
Enjoy!

God love you!
