A weekend in Assisi! (Part 1)

Ok folks, here's the first installment of my photos from our trip to Assisi.  Assisi is a beautiful hill town in the region of Umbria, Italy, most famous for its well-known son and daughter, St. Francis and St. Clare.

I was excited to travel here as I had heard great things about how peaceful and powerfully spiritual the place was. It did not fail to disappoint!  We (the new seminarians) spent an amazing weekend here of spiritual talks, tours, prayer, and fellowship.

I can't wait to visit again! Let's take a tour:

The basilica of St. Francis (where he is buried) as seen from down in the valley)

City Gates

The flying buttresses of the basilica of St. Clare (where she is buried)

The famous San Damiano crucifix (the one in which Francis was praying in front of and he heard the voice of Christ saying "Rebuild my Church!")  I prayed for all of you there! :)

Tomb of St. Clare

Ancient Roman Pagan Temple, converted into a Catholic church in the early days of Christianity!

More than 2,000 years old and still standing! Amazing!

Inside our hotel

An ancient well

The house and warehouses of St. Francis' family

Basilica of St. Francis

The Cathedral of Assisi

Baptismal font where St. Francis and St. Clare were baptized, among others!

Ancient Roman cistern inside the church.

The Rocca Maggiore (Fortress/Castel above town)

More to come!

God love you!
